Time for new brake rotors. Which ones to get?
I have the ECS stage2 kit -- with slotted A8 rotors and Boxster calipers. The rotors are beginning to wear down. (But the brake pads are still fine -- I guess I abused the rotors with a few track days and Porterfield R4 pads.)
So I want to get new rotors. Should I get the same slotted A8 rotors from ECS? Or should I just plain ol' OEM A8 rotors?
Does Brembo make rotors for the A8?
Also, even though my Mintex reds are still fine, I plan to replace them too, because I don't like them. Still haven't decided on what to replace them with.
Thanks,
P.

plain/non zimmerman A8 rotors
I spent 5 days at the track a couple weeks ago... finished off a set of Hawk Blues, burned up a set of R4s, ECS slotted (most likely zimmermans/less that 2 monts old) have surface cracks and slots are mostly gone. I'll be going w/ plain ATE or Bremebo A8s when my back-up set of ECS slotted rotors are done.

When you say "plain" do you mean not slotted?
I take it you don't like Zimmerman rotors, then?
If I'm not getting slotted rotors, is there any appreciable difference between ATE, Brembo, or OEM?
Thanks,
P.

From what I understand...
Slotted and/or drilled rotors are really only necessary for track days (or if you drive really, really hard on the street).
I'd get plain rotors for the street and keep the aging slotted guys for the track if they're still usable.
I've got about 1000 miles on my Hawk HPS pads on new stock rotors. Upside: Initial bite is great. Low dust. Downside: Squeaky. Almost not enough to mention as it is a rare occurence, but with the right pressure/temperature/moon phase/etc, I hear some light squealling.

Hmmm... i had not considered those pads...
My local technician is not terribly fond of Hawk pads. But his is not the only opinion. He suggested the R4S pad, which is also known to be noisy, and needs to heat up to be really good (which means that it would really suck in the winter).
I still have the anti-squeal plates which came with my Boxster calipers, although I don't use them. If I get a noisy pad, maybe I'll put them in.
Thanks!

yes, no slots.
I'm not a fan of zimmerman after seeing what these rotors have done and other failures that have been posted online.
I don't know of any difference between the ATE and Brembo rotors other than price. PureMS carries all these brands... I'd give a look there.

www.germanautoparts.com...get OEM replacements
They are cheap, and you're not going to notice a difference between them and all the other A8 options on the market (for more $$).
