Tips on replacing Audi A4 quattro wheel barring
Alright, so I'm faced with a problem. I'm on low budget, but I need to replace a wheel barring, and I want it done right. Going to the dealership is about $450 WORST CASE, $300 best case... Is there anyway to "Do it yourself" so I do not have to go and spend the money? Or is it too risky to try on my own? And if so, what type of tools would be needed?
Any tips would be great, thanks!!
ps- I have an 1997 Audi A4 quattro 1.8T...thanks

Someone local to you might have a bearing press(see pic) that he/she is willing to rent or lend and or assist you. I tend to like to use factory bearings(about $50-60). Keep them in the freezer over night, as it makes installation a tade easier. Just follow the factory specs for installation and its not too bad. You might consider purchasing a new collar bolt(about $7-8) while your in there.
If the Hub is heavily corroded, it can try ones patience a tade. You'll also need a torque wrench to set it to spec.

a response.......
Yes, I know they are a one time use. I'm just not one of those who like's to push something upon other's, hence the suggested replacement.
I'm not generally a fan of aftermarket kits. They tend to use china produced collar bolts which I refuse to use. Their cast and quality of material used is boarderline trash to be reserved about it.

yes ,look here ...finally got the bearing out ....more details
found scored housing where it was pressed in without cleaning the surfaces or bearing . Two year old Audi bearing failure due to water inside(rusted) and the car hasn't been in high water and no carwashes. If I knew it was going to take this long I would have started earlier.

https://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/2885867.phtml</a

Re: a response.......
well i wasn't trying to push anything on anybody, just stating the facts.
As for made in china i can't prove they're not, but can you prove they are?
I've always used (only twice) the Continental (aka CRP, Conti, or Conti-Tech), kit from autohaus. which is think is just a *** kit.

Thanks for the tips...The press is what I really need if I want to do it myself...
But unfortunately I've never done it myself...So is there any type of instructions/places to look for that? A step by step guide maybe haha...
