Default Tiptronic busted

I have a 99 1/2 w/ the 2.8L. Recently my tiptronic stopped working and is making a crunching noise when i try to switch over. I took it to the dealer and they said it was a simple fix but would cost $500. Has anyone had a similar problem, or know how to repair it?

had the same problem with mine about 2 years ago. It was the switch and it cost $400 at the dealer. I had taken it to my local import shop, but because it had to do with the trany he didn't want to touch it. I don't think this is a do-it-yourself repair.
