Default Tiptronic Transmission Help

Just recently my tiptronic shift lever lost its resistance to slide between auto and tip modes. Prior to this point, it felt like a spring or something would keep it in place and it would take a small amount of effort to switch modes.

Now it requires no effort and it has even slipped bak to auto mode in a hard corner.

Any thoughts on how to repair or what is wrong?

Thanks

Default You may want to open her up.

There is a magnet there that may have come loose.

Default the magnet does not provide any pressure... all it does is make a connection...

...so that the leds work and the gauge display changes from the regular to the tip display (12345). Its situated on the electronic card that holds the leds.

The pressure when you move the stalk from left to right is produced by the mechanics of the actual shift mechanism.

Default not a magnet.

What year is the car? on my 98.5 it's a plastic "spring" for lack of a better word, and these can become brittle and break. I't take it to the dealer for an estimate, its a pretty common thing I think.

Default Any info online on how to open it up?

I started to have the same issue this past weekend. It just started happening out of the blue. Anyone know where a How-To is online to get in there and find the problem?
