Touch up paint without a paint code?

Touch up paint without a paint code?
So, I have a rock chip on the hood and I needs some touch up paint. It's in a very visible spot, so I'd like a better match than just eyeballing it.
Trouble is, for some unknown reason, the previous jerk-*** owner peeled the paint code sticker out of the trunk, so I don't have it. I never noticed until now. (I've had the car for 5 years)
Does anyone have any suggestions for touch up paint, what code or name to use, or where I should get it? Will any silver do?
