Tranny stuck in reverse...
I pull over once there is a safe place turn the car off and start playing with it. After I pull considerably hard it comes out of gear. After going in and out of every gear I feel it's okay to start driving agian. Everything is fine except it feels weird going into 5th gear.
I get to the dealership and buy the bulbs for my dash, since two have burned out now, this was going to be the afternoon project. I jump back in the car and back out to the spot. Try to get the car out of gear but it won't come out of reverse. Luckily I'm at the dealership so a tech backs my car around the building and into the shop. They put it on the lift and start trying to pry it out of gear with a pry bar. They determine that it is an internal linkage problem.
So now my car is stuck 300 miles away and they said they have a hard time getting parts for transmissions for A4s. The guy said they recently waited 2 monthes to get parts and when they couldn't they just replaced the tranny. They said their appointments are 1.5 weeks out. I'll be lucky if I get my car back before Christmas.
During my searches many people said that they would not except a rebuilt tranny. Is this a case I can argue since my car has ~85k?
Should I let them try to fix it if it is just a linkage problem or should I push for a new tranny?
One of the service writers noticed my car was debadged, which doesn't help along with the clutch, suspension and the tint, I hope they don't catch on that my car is chipped and try to void my warranty.
I guess the only good news I have is that it happened at the dealership so I didn't have to get towed and I don't have to rent a car since I can steal a car from my parents.
