Transmission Problem
On my 96 A4 auto I have transmissions problems.
1) The gear indicator lights are all lighted all the time.
2) If I manually shift into 2 , 3 or 4, it will not change the gear.
3) The trans will not go into D (5th gear), even though the gear shift is in D
4) It seems to shift from first at a higher RPM than before and sometimes I get a hard shift.
I would appreciate any help, thanks in Advance.

I had the same problem in my 97 1.8T aut. It happened when I rev'd past 7200rpm in first gear... Anyway, went to the dealer, he reset the computer and the limp mode was gone. I had all gears again including fifth and reverse and the gear indicator lights returned to normal. Other people have had the car go into auto transmission limp mode because of water in the connections between the transmission and the ecu, fixing this returned everthing to normal for them (they still had to reset the computer though).
