Default TRE bolt wont sit flush with knuckle

TRE to steering knuckle bolt, you can see the gap between the washer and the knuckle. It doesn't seem to want to sit down on top like the other side, any ideas?

Default Just a guess, but maybe try compressing the suspension.

If the geometry changes, you may, or may not, find it easier to get the bolt seated. I don't know, as I have never done this to one of our cars, but I would try it.

Default yea, use your jack and jack up the suspension - change the angles

it will drop in. I had to do alot of manipulation. Take your time, no need to apply brute force.

FYI, I had to get an alignment afterwards and I thought I was spot on.

Default If I remember correctly, part of the TRE had a section scooped out

so that the bolt coming down or the one coming in from the side needed to be matched in order to fit properly. Maybe you just need to rotate the bolt a bit...

Default pull out the bolt and check debris inside the threaded hole on the TRE

I had that happen once - it was debris from the assembly plant. A few scrapes with a small screwdriver and I was back in buisness.

Default That bolt and washer is for safety - so that the TRE won't drop should the pinch bolt get loose or

fall off. Having said that, the geometry of the TRE affects bumpsteer. So balance it right now by loosening the pinch bolt, then tapping lightly on that safety bolt until the gap is gone and make sure both sides are equal.

Depending on your drop, you have at least 1/4" play with the knuckle to compensate for bump steer. Note that this affects your Toe settings, so get an alignment after.

Default That is not the original bolt. Where did you get it?

Is it longer than what you took out?

Default I don't think it's supposed to close that gap -- IIRC.

I nearly broke the head off that bolt trying -- until I realized what I was doing.
