I was told by a performance parts supplier that alignments on our beloved A4's are unnecessary. That the only real adjustment that can be made is to "toe" and you can't adjust cast and camber? I also was told to avoid letting an Audi dealer do an alignment if a chose to have one done in spite of the info I was given because he heard of many a dealer really screwing up modified suspension A4's What gives??

Default partly true

Camber and caster cannot be set, only toe-in. There is an adjustment to permit camber to be balanced between the left and right front. When I installed the "Eurosport" springs I opted to not have an alignment done and I have found no reason to do it in the 5000 miles since.

I would say allowing the dealer to do it and having it messed up is going to be dealer dependent, just as would be the case with an outside shop. I know my dealer's service manager initially indicated it was not possible for him to align the front end with the official assessory Audi sport springs installed, he then changed his mind. My confidence that the dealer service department knows what they are doing on the alignment machine is pretty low and I dont plan on using the service. Besides, I have 18" wheels and many of the alignment machines cant attach properly so I wouldnt be surprised to find my wheels dinged up and nothing changed for the better.

It's true with Honda's, and the front suspension is similar...so maybe?
