Default Turbo Timer owners- what's the average time that your engine runs after turning your car off?

After, say a somewhat spirited drive?

I usually let my car idle for about 30 secs to 1 1/2 minutes, depending on what song is on the radio. Also, the last mile or so to my apt is pretty congested, so I never take it above 3200 rpm.

I'm just curious as to how long the turbo timer keeps the engine running, and if I should let it idle longer or not.

Thanks for any replies!

Default Here's mine...

2 minutes when going to/from work cuz it's all highway with me averaging 3-4k mostly above 3500RPM

5 minutes after long trips like going to SD or so...

Default What I do:

One minute if it's really light driving (to the grocerey store, heavy traffic, etc)

Three minutes if I have to get on the hiway, or do 'spirited driving'

Default So, a followup question...

Thanks for the replies!

You let the engine run to cool the turbo down, correct? And the reason you cool the turbo down is to avoid coking? And coking occurs more frequently with dino oil as opposed to synthetic oil.

So if I switch to synthetic, will the cool down times go down, or be necessary at all?

Default That's WAY too long dude. It's not good to idle th engine for too long.

You've gotta strike a balance between cycling some cooler oil through the turbo and idling the engine excessively.

1 min for normal, 2-3 minutes for spirited, 10 minutes at the track is perfect.

Switch to synthetic, get a timer and set the preset to .5-1 min and 2-3 min.
