Turn Signal Fix (2001 Hazzard Switch Replacement)
#11
Thank you for posting the pics but there has got to be an easier way to get it out. I broke the front of mine and its still not out. Is it possible to just buy another flasher and solder it to the board??

Thanks for the pics and video. I tried to clean mine, but it didn't work. I even sprayed it with electronic sprayer. That didn't work either. So I ended up buying a new part from the dealer for $45. It was the same price at ECS Tuning.

I want to know how you got the relay off...I don't know if my soldering iron wasnt hot enough...I mean it heated the solder but I couldnt pull the relay off.

Yeah I just took a REALLY good look at the relay for the turn signals...yeah its missing a contact...wow...so I would really love to know what I have to do aside from holding scalding hot metal in my hands to get the relay switched

I've got a 2004 A6 Avant. I have a problem where the right turn signal in the cluster is very dim. Would this switch possibly cause that? I really hope it's not the cluster!!!

Wow...thanks
This is one of the many reasons I own an Audi. The write-ups and problem descriptions on here make it very easy to determine if my problem matches, and if so, how to fix it.
With that being said, I molested a butter knife to use as a trim-puller, pulled the hazard switch, took it apart, determined that the problem was as described(my resistor contact points were warn down, so I was unable to fix it) installed the new one, and my problem is solved.
Thanks very much, I really appreciate the help, even 4 years after it was written.

if the resistor contact points are warn out, can it be fixed? I got a good electrician down on my block, i can take it to him to resolder them? Or is it something inside the relay that cant be fixed?
My turn somethimes gets stuck, stops blinking and arrow stay lit on the dash...
I guess i have to go rough on my swith too, i cant find a "normal" way to get it out...

Fair warning for anyone attempting this with wood trim on a B5 - follow the instructions on this post WITH THE FOLLOWING CHANGE:
Work on removing the trim from THE BOTTOM first, and pop open the cupholder to give you leverage for pulling the trim piece.
The trim is old by now, and is brittle. Using the butter knife on the sides causes enough stress that it chips. So start at the bottom, work the sides with a FLAT pry and use the space behind the cupholder (just your fingers) and you can get it off with no damage.
