Default Uncomfortable seats - what to do?

After owning my 2.8 for over a year I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that I hate the seats. The last long trip I went on (about 200 mi) I was squirming like crazy by the time I got to my distination, and that was with stops!!! My back is fine, it's my butt and legs that are hurting, and my back is sweating (My body doesn't agree with leather). Does anyone else feel my pain? Any hints?

I'm going on a long trip to Vermont from the DC area, driving, in September. That trip will determine whether I keep the car. I LOVE everything about this car except the seats are not a good fit to my body. :-(

Default The best thing about the seats is....

that they are very easily adjustable. On long trips I'll move the seat up for a while, tilt the seat bottom, lay it back as far as possible, adjust the lumbar support, etc. And the adjustments I make, I do to the extreme to change my seating position as much as possible. Another thing I do on long trips is to fold a bath towel on the seat and sit on that- even though leather breathes, it don't breathe like cotton!

German automakers are notorious for their firm (hard) seats, but I prefer them greatly over the US fluffy seats. My dad's Caddy is the only car I've driven that actually made my back hurt! No support whatsoever - just way soft padding. In fact he took it to an upholsterer to firm it up!

But hey! If they don't fit, they don't fit. You spend this kinda money you ought to be comfy!

Default I thought I was the only one who hated the seats!!!

I do feel your pain. Whenever I take trips of more than an hour or so, my lower back really starts to get stiff. I've squirmed and adjusted, but nothing seems to help. Let me know if you come up with a solution. I've only had the car about a year as well. Good luck.

Default

I agree. I want a firm seat with plenty of thigh support. Thigh support is what ricers lack.

Default Like bfm mentioned, you can change out the seats and still keep the car.

Several people on here have different seats than stock, and at least one person removed some material from the seat bottom so that it didn't cause a pressure point on his thighs.

I'm pretty sure that Larry Sr. has Recaro or Sparco seats in his A4. Try asking him about options.

Default I ordered mine with the sport seats...

I rode in the comfort seats and thought they lacked support. If the sport seat wasnt available or turned out to be poor I planned to go Recaro.

I couldnt try out the sport seat because it seems none of the dealers here will order them for "lot" a4 cars because the typical shopper thinks they are "too hard". However I have been delighted with my choice (cloth covered). They are firm and supportive. The cloth helps along with the shape to keep my butt firmly planted. I think the longest ride I have taken with the car was about 5 hours, but that was very pleasant.

I am 6'3" and weight 230 pounds. I do not find the seat too narrow. My elderly mother who has osteoporosis says they are the most comfortable car seat she has ridden in (and she likes those leather couch-like things in a big Caddy).

Default I've been giving this some thought, too. Here's what I think...

<img src="http://www.computersarebad.com/recaroaudiracingshell.jpg">

This is the "Audi Racing Shell" made by Recaro. It's built specifically for the A4, S4, & TT. I think it would probably solve any support issues you might have

But more realistically, I'd go with a set of these...

This is the Recaro Sport. Unlike the first one, this one is adjustable (a big plus) and clearly has more padding. I'd love to have a set of these puppies covered in the factory leatherette...maybe one of these days.

Default I think that may be the solution.....

Moving the seat around a lot during the trip. It's easy to do so on the 2.8 since it's all power. I'm not going to consider replacing the seats. I wish I would have gotten the sport seats, I actually test drove a car with the sport seats.

You say leather breathes? Not in my car. :-(
