If they put a time pinch on, I'd walk away...they want you to make a rushed decision.

Opinions on A4 Volvo's S40
I've driven the volvo S40. and i hardly think it was worth 27k out of the door.
I did not like the fact so much sound was able to creep in the cabin. the engine had pep. I felt the drive was loud and the doors didn't do well in keeping sound out. plastic everywhere, atleast the A4 has a rubber feel to things and is denser to the touch.
The A4 was hands down a much better car. but for the price you looking at for the S40, it's not bad. even if the price was withing 3-4k for the A4, i'd still get the a4.

Ok, I never thought about the S40, I just read quickly a couple reviews. It seems great, BUT!...
no stick (a must) no quattro (not a must, but I'm comparing this to an A4). I love the styling, but the interior looks too much like my 96 Galant. It has a huge sleeper advantage (c'mon, it's a Volvo) buuut....
NO STICK!
I may take a peek at the dealer just out of curiosity.

Not worth the money.
I am surprised, 21k. That sounds like base invoice price. The S40s I was looking at were around 28K MSRP. The interior was cheap looking along with the dash. You can only get automatic, no standard transmission. The power was adequate, but not great. Handling was smooth. Suspension was mushy compared with the A4. The A4 is a lot better value. If you want a Volvo get an S70...Worth the money.<p>cessna_Joe
