Valve cover gasket replacement, where to put sealant?

Default Valve cover gasket replacement, where to put sealant?
Replacing both valve covers this weekend on my 2.8 30v since they're both leaking oil. Where do I put the silicon sealant?

The Bentley says just in the 4 corners of the valve cover, but the author of the writeup for the 2.7T (S4) applies the sealant around the entire surface covered by the gasket.

What do you guys think?

Default Anywhere the gasket makes a 90 degree inside turn.
Those 90 degree inside bends are opportune for leaks. A little dab of sealant there should prevent that.

Hmm...I just put a thin layer around the entire gasket. Was that wrong?

Default Probably won't hurt...but if you notice it starting to leak, then yeah...
you'll need to re-do it.
