WANTED: Photo of the bottom control board inside the NDBW cruise control unit
However, I did find a way to test if a board connection is the problem---Put the cruise control unit in the freezer for a few hours, then immediately install it and go for a drive! This advice came from a good electronics friend of mine. And believe it or not, my cruise system did work while the board was frozen!
Most likely faulty part---the relay. The advice in Nate's link above about how to change relay is a possible fix, though testing the relay's contacts (which should click when you press SET or RESUME and again when the system shuts OFF) and loosening the springs on it probably should be tried first.
