Default washer tank sensor -- how to short the electrodes?

I've got a busted headlight washer pump but won't have a free afternoon to fix it for several weeks. But I'm tired of watching the animated display. Some people have said they shorted the electrodes with a wire or paperclip. How do you do that? It's about 9 inches down through the filler hole -- I certainly can't get my hand in there and needlenose pliers are way too short.

http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~marmer</a

You can pull the sensor out of the tank, short to ground, and then put the sensor back.
