Whatever came of the experiment to recode our ECU to think it was an A6?
#5
Some info and a possible theory. (edited)
I found a little info on what these codes mean:
The first two digits are a regional code, for emmisions, 06=north america,.
Next digit is Drivetrain, 1=FWD, not sure if quattro is 0 or 2(somebody with quattro check please)
Next digit is Transmission, 1 is manual, 5 is Auto
Next digit is car. 1=A4, 2=A6
So people were trying to code their cars from 06xx1 to 06xx2, but there's no map for an 06xx2.
It might be possible to recode using region code 01 through 05, though I haven't tried it.For example if you're coded for 06011, try 05012, 04012, etc until one holds.
I don't THINK you can do any damage recoding, it if doesn't run well you can always set the code back to the original (write it down before you start messing with it!)
