whats involved in adjusting the clutch on a B5? and what would cause it to release so late?

There is no way to adjust the clutch.
The stock release point is set up high, it will also start to move closer to the very top of the pedal as the disk starts to wear out and the pressure plate cant move far enough to give a full clamp down on the disk.

I wonder why Audi and VW started that? It all started with the A3 chassis VWs...
My Corrado VR6 was fine, my GTIs, Sciroccos were all fine. Then my friend buys a 96 Golf GTI and I drove it and was like...whoa..what's up with this super long travel clutch pedal?
Audi too with the A4....same thing..super long clutch travel.
Does anyone know of a reason they went that route? It'd kinda annoying...especially after coming from my Peugeot 405 Mi16 or Miata....both with very short (read NORMAL) clutch travel.
