Default When cold cranking no longer exists....

Yeah , I have a battery heater again . Last one I left on previous car .Its 80 watts and warms to 16c - 21c above ambient temperatures. So nice to get car to crank like its summer all year round, even when its sub zero.

It comes with big twist-ties but I'm going to buy some long strips of velcro and make a strap for easy removal so I can swap it to my kids car when its left out.

Default Where did you pick that up at?

Although it may be a little late in the season for one (for my area at least). What are your thoughts on engine oil heaters?

Default $25 any GM dealer #10952544 , my first one I bought in 1988 ,swapped

to two cars before I stupidly left it on my other Chevy in 04 when I sold it. I get employee price but accessory markup is low so it only saves me $5. Took three weeks to get ,GM only has them in Memphis for the entire USA . I ordered two (1 for me and 1 for parts driver) ,the week before the Midwest snow storm ,they never left Memphis so I had to file a claim on them ,part of my job . Reordered them last hump day and they came today. The nice thing is they are Thinsulate also and if you already have the car warmed up they maintain the battery temp for a while and even restarts after movies ,shopping etc in extreme cold seem better. They help battery life also. This will keep me from replacing the A4's battery for a while. I've had a 5 year battery last 7+ years with one of these and since my cars battery has already gone past its years I'll extend it longer this way.

Default I have a magnetic block heater for oil pan on steel pan cars . They work great.

The one I have is 400 watts and can warm up a car very quickly . I put it on an appliance timer when we had the 25 below winter about 10 years ago and had it come on about 4am so it was only on until I went out for the newspaper before going to work. I've been looking to add one to the Audi but haven't decided on a hose type ,block heater or oil heater . I will say I don't like the dipstick style if there is much of a bend in the tube and they aren't as effective as the large magnetic ones . I've been trying to figure out if I could get it to stay on the block under the manifolds if there is a large enough flat area for the magnet. I just sold a freeze plug type block heater for water jacket on ebay . I had it for YET another GM car but never installed it ,looked to see if I could adapt it for the 2.8 but gave up.
