where is the external temperature sensor located?

where is the external temperature sensor located?
i'm always curious, because my temp readings always seem a bit off to me. i'm sure there can be some calibration error or something, but i just wonder where the sensor is and if it's pulling some heat from someplace close.

there are actually 2 sensor for outside temp, they calculate the 2 for the reading.
one is at the bumper, the other is below the pollen filter in the fresh air duct.
i recently had to change mine in the fresh air duct, it was 90 outside and it went down to 27 degrees, so my a/c would not come on, talk about frustrating after changing an evaporator core and getting the a/c working perfect again, it wouldn't turn on... it thought it was freezing outside!!
I checked with Vag-com and the one sensor was correct, but the other would nose-dive after a few min's.
I never noticed b4 cause i also just replaced my cluster so, i now turned on my heads up display.
(i used to leave it off because of bad pixels)

I am having the same issue with incorrect external temp reading. In my case, the temp drops to -12 degF & then goes back up to various, incorrect temperatures. Of course, the a/c shuts off below 32 degF. Usually after I park the car the condition goes away, but returns during hot (90 degF) weather.
How may I test these sensors to determine which is failing ? Or, should I just replace both? If so, any recommendations on where to purchase?
