Default White/blue smoke outta 1.8t...blown turbo?

Hey folks,

I have an '00 A4 1.8t with 57k miles. I was running Mobil 1 15-50 in Northern NJ, and just switched to 0-40 today, but I think it's too late!

This morning when I started up the car with the 15-50, I let it warm up for a couple minutes. Then I proceeded down my street, not exceeding more than 2k rpms. But halfway down the block smoke started pouring out of my tailpipe profusely! Then I changed to the 0-40 weight. The power is restored, turbo kicks in, but it smokes bad, both at idle and at full throttle its ugly.

Do you think the thick 15-50 caused this? What do you think is the problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, TIA!

Default Checked your coolant level?

Can't imagine that was caused by the 15w-50 synth. Got a boost gauge? Still getting the same boost as before?

Yeah I checked the coolant level. It is fine, no headgasket problems. The smell is pure burning oil, no coolant smell or loss. No boost guage, car is stock except for APR chip, N75 valve and Forge diverter valve that have been in the car for 1 year/10k miles.

Any leaks in the engine bay? I assume you put the right amount back in when you changed the oil? Maybe pull a couple plugs and see if they're fouled at all.

Default Sounds like what happened when mine blew, is it making noise?

Sounds like a woo woo noise when you rev it?
Are you still getting boost?

If the Turbo has failed to the extent that mine did it will quit running because the plugs will foul with oil.

A little fun last weekend:

No it's not actually, and since I changed the oil to 0-40 the boost seems to work perfectly. Just smoke is bad. It smokes sometimes at idle and then worse when the turbo builds boost. I'm afraid its the turbo...my mechanic will give the final word tomorrow.

If it's the turbo I will splurge for the K04...just need to figure out how I wish to tune it so as not to overbear the mostly stock car.
