Default

go w/the boot if the joint is still good. It's what I've done in the past

Default I bought a new Empi driver front axle assembly for $ 150.00 over the counter

Empi requires that you grease the inner cv prior to installation (grease included in the box) but that was it. My car is close to 95,000 miles so I figured no loss in replacing the whole thing (at 92,500k miles). It's an easy job assuming you have the right tools. I say do it.

Default $25 boot vs $90-$150 axle...

I'd opt for the boot personally, if the joint is still in good working order of course... but that's just me

Default Replace the boot only -- same labor, lower price.

~$16 for a kit that includes 2 clamps, 14mm bolt (which didn't fit my car) and new grease from Blau. The job was fairly easy. Make sure you get the 10mm triple square bit to loosen the inner joint and the 14 or 17 mm Allen wrench for the front axle bolt (A4).
