Why can't one Audi dealer perform the service that another Audi dealer states that needs to be done?

Default Why can't one Audi dealer perform the service that another Audi dealer states that needs to be done?

The sensor for the driver's side heated mirror failed (or never worked). So, I schedule an appt. for one dealer to look at it. They determine the sensor has failed and ordered the "guts" of the mirror.

time passes....mileage goes up...I get busy...holidays are coming....

So, I can't make appt. with dealer #1 who verified the sensor is bad and ordered the part before I hit 10k miles. Dealer #2 is where I used to take my 90 to often happens to be in the area that I'll be traveling this weekend for the holidays, at which, I'll be just shy of hitting the 10k mark. They do have an appt. open for my 10k service - woohoo! BUT, they are unable to do the sensor because they would need to verify that it has failed and needs to be replaced. They don't have the part in stock and won't order it until they ...yadda, yadda, yadda. So, what's the deal? Why can't they just call up Dealer #1 to verify that it needs to be replaced? I realize that they're independently owned, but they can't work together!?! Can't we all just get along?

Default Speaking from my experience troubleshooting computers and networks...

You can never assume that someone else has diagnosed a problem correctly. In the long run, the time they spend having their techs check it out pays off.

Also, they may know something about the other dealer's competence that they aren't telling you.

I didn't mention the name of dealer #1 to dealer #2. It just bugs me, even though I understand.
