Width and offset question
Stock 17" rims are 7.5" wide with 45mm offset. This results in the rims being pulled in a little inside the wheel well.
In my personal opinion, the best look and fit is achieved with 8" wide rims with 35mm offset. This puts the rims just about flush with the fender, and still fits like a glove. This is what I've got, and I've got my car pretty low. No rubbing problems at all.
You can of course go wider, but you might have to roll the fenders at that point, depending on how low you plan to drop the suspension. There are many people who run 8.5" wide rims with 32mm offset. Those rims stick out just a *tiny* bit, but it's enough to cause rubbing if you lower the car enough and don't roll the fenders.
A zero offset means the hub is right in the center of the rim. As the offset becomes positive, the hub moves towards the outside of the rim, thus pulling the rim in towards the car.
