Default Yes, they'll work fine.

You only have to use a lower profile tire when you get larger diameter wheels (17" or larger) The lower profile keeps the total diameter of the wheel and tire the same. If it were different, your speedometer would lose accuracy.

Default I thought that it was a ratio?

Then, the diameter is different... 215/55 is not the same as 205/55, and you will lose speedometer accuracy!

You won't have a problem with 215s rubbing.

Default Larger diameter tires will make the gearing effectively taller

... and you would theoretically lose some off-the-line acceleration. It might not be noticable though, and you might be able to make up for it by having better launch traction (providing the tires are in fact better).
