Will a chipped '00 1.8T FWD beat a '97 2.8 FWD from 0 to 60? (what about stock?)

Chipped - most likely. Stock - no.
I have a 98.5 2.8 FWD if you wanna race me...<p>~Mike

Chipped, yes -- Stock ...
... would be close. I had a '96 2.8 FWD manual (same 12-valve, 172hp motor as '97 2.8s) and 0-60 times were around 7.8 seconds. I think the '00 1.8T manual is right around there (quattro/manual is a claimed 8.1 seconds). The reason they are close from 0-60 is the 1.8Ts powerband, which is nice and flat. So even with only 155 lb ft of torque, versus the 188 in the 2.8, the 1.8T comes on strong low in the curve while the 2.8 didn't have any ***** until over 3500. After 60 mph though, the 2.8 would run away...
