Windshield
This morning on the way to work here in western CT, the windshield on my '98.5 A4 1.8TQM (16k miles) decided enough was enough, and cracked. No stone or other impact. Just a crack. It's the first blemish on an otherwise perfect car. Ouch. <p>I am interested in knowing whether others have had a similar experience. <br>

When I cracked mine, started out as a small star pattern about the size of a half dollar. When windshied was replaced a month later, had spread to lines halfway across the windshield on both outside AND inside glass surfaces.<p>That glass is extremely brittle; I think the smallest impact will cause it to crack - esp. if there's a weak/stressed point.

My windshield took many wacks from stones that made me blink. However I took one a month ago that needed repair, lucky for me they could fix it with epoxy injection and didn't have to rip the whole thing out.<p>It does seem stange that this topic seems to come up a whole lot though.

A4 Windshields
These windshields are amazingly thin relative to other windshields (ever seen a Camaro windshield off the car? always wondered how much those things weigh...)<p>A couple people here are on their third or fourth windshield, but luckily this happens *just* enough to make an aftermarket in A4 windshields profitable... so when you're out of warranty (many of us ARE already out of warranty), you won't be dependent upon dealers for windshields.<p>Cameron<br>

Yeh, cracked mine within the first 3 months of owning my car and already have a <br>couple of chips in my second. I would have never thought I would have said this, <br>but the glass does look kinda thin.<p>Can anyone out there recommend an aftermarket brand windshield that's better<br>than the audi orignal?
