Windshield crack...
There is a 4 inch long crack at the base of my windshield, right above where the dashboard starts on the drivers side. My car is still under warranty with audi, should I take it to them, or go to an independant windshield place? Does anyone have any advice for me?

I had a 6" (now 10") crack eye level from within the framing.........
took it to dealer, they check it by running a fine ball-point pen along it, if there is a notch (for lack of a better word) they won't replace it!!
I am under the impression by using a "fine" tipped pen they can actually creat their own notch.
And they know damn well of the sub-par glass coming from the factory!?
I'd say try the dealer, but be prepared to just have it replaced on your own. Some insurance policies replace windshields for next to nothing.
hope this helps more than bums you out!
Audi On!

Here's they test they used at Advantage audi:
Take an ordinary ball point pen and see if you can catch the tip of it in the crack. If so, there's an impact crater from a rock, therefore damage, therefore no warranty coverage

any crack caused by something hitting the windsheild.
Once they find a spot where there is a crater, they look at it under magnification to see if its a real crater, a stress crack looks very different
