Wow Subaru is on a roll...
WRX STi slated for US release next year, and a twin-turbo Legacy, much like the B4 editions sold abroad, will join US Subaru lineup in fall of 2004 to coincide with the re-designed 2005 Legacy.
Did i mention it appears to be a twin-turbo 4 cylinder? The current B4 sold in Australia and Hong Kong is a 2.0 twin-turbo DOHC flat four capable of 255hp, 231 lb-ft torque.
The WRX STi is expected to have a 261hp turbo 4.
Ive always loved the Legacy sedan. Audi better start fulfilling the "sport" aspect that former director Piech promised. While the WRX is an economy car (Impreza) dressed up, the Legacy is a very nice family sedan.
The above gleaned from an recent Autoweek article. Just when others are beginning to embrace turbocharging (BMW adopting it) Audi decides it wants to pull away from FI toward NA? Dumb.
Cheers,
Sameer

they set the standard and then move on
in some cases.
I wouldn't be suprised if Audi starts pouring some new technology into their cars (more FSI, etc..)
With the changes at Audi...who knows...
Piech should have stayed imo.

ya...the issue is brand marketing, how do they want to place VW v. Audi...
and Piech said repeatedly he wants VW brand to become Mercedes at a 20% discount...make it a near premium maker (logically makes a ton of sense).
I just don't want to see Subaru become the terrific sports car company with lots of fun product and solid mechanicals, while Audis get softer and softer...the new A4 is a dissapointment to me, and if the next S4 is NA, that would be sad as well.

seems like
no one knows what to do with Audi.
Do they make it the performance brand or the luxury brand, or the luxury/sport brand?
Audi should seperate from VW and continue as a sport/luxury auto maker with a dedicated line that features S and RS divisions.

i used to feel similarly about an na s4 ..
but the thought of a 370+hp na v8 in a car that's lighter than the current flavor that also outperforms the e46 m3 in many if not every aspect can change one's mind. =)
