X-Post about AWE Tuning day for ACNA folks (A4 & S4 content)
I'd guess about a dozen Audi's showed up, among them 3 RS6's (!!). One of those was a dealer car (sticker still in the window) and the other two were ACNA members. One of those (I think his name was Jim) had chipped his RS6 with an APR unit, and on the dyno we were all kind of shocked to see how down on power he was (around 100hp below stock at the crank (based on AWE's rough formula of multiplying HP at the wheels by 1.28 to get BHP)). He tried to switch modes on the chip (using the cruise control button) but it made no difference. After several tries it was more or less determined that there WAS something wrong, although nobody was sure what. Since AWE installs GIAC chips, they basically shrugged and said, "It ain't us dude!" (but in a nice, sympathetic way).
What made it more interesting was that two other APR chipped cars (a B6 A4 1.8T and a 225 TT) were also producing far less than the promised power and torque (I believe the A4 was less than stock, or at least far below the promised numbers, although the TT was at least 10-12 HP above stock...I think the owner (and we) expected a bit more since he also had an APR exhaust....mfr had "promised" ~260 HP and he was getting around 235).
At least 1 '03 A6 2.7T became the new home for a GIAC chip and he saw significant increases in torque and HP (and had the proverbial sh*t eating grin plastered on his face the rest of the day...I followed him onto the turnpike later and he turboed off into the distance in no time).
All in all a good day at AWE. The staff there was awesome, very helpful and generous with the use of their shop for the ACNA GTG. Oh, and they provided donuts and pizza!
Final note: I got to ride in a chipped '01 S4 running a race program with 100 octane race gas...the car needed a bath, but you could NOT complain about the performance on that one! My god, what acceleration! Thanks Gordon for the impressive ride! I was laughing like a kid on a roller coaster every time he nailed that puppy!
OK...I've spoken my piece. Thanks for reading!
