Default XPost: Stealth Radar Detector install in sunvisor finally done...

I've been talking about hiding the radar detector in the sunvisor for some time now. For those who live in DC and VA, where detectors are illegal, this is a good way be protected without risking getting pulled over for have the detector mounted in the middle of the windshield.

<img src="http://www.capitalaudi.com/gallery/albums/album353/IMG_1282_copy.sized.jpg">

I started with a Passport 7500 which had a bad contact in the charger cord. Using regular phone cord I spliced into the 12V power. I used a spare visor I had, took out the vanity mirror assembly and used the wires to power the detector. The positive terminal is the clip, the negative the swivel piece that screws the visor into the frame of the roof.

The visors have a hardened foam interior, which is easy to carve out with an X-Acto knife. There's also an interior structural frame wire that was clipped to allow the sensors to look out and not be blocked.

<img src="http://www.capitalaudi.com/gallery/albums/album353/IMG_1299_copy.sized.jpg">

I took the bottom cover of the detector off to save space, keeping the gold foil insulation for interference. The top was kept for the buttons. Once the radar detector was fitted into the visor and tested, I cut the vanity mirror frame to fit in the leftover space, retaining the original function. Right not I have the gaps covered in electrical tape. Later on I'll use the gray vinyl to make a cover for the area.

Once installed, I twisted the positive contact 90 degrees to allow power to go to the visor in the up position. Before it would only turn on when someone flipped it down. This way I can switch the detector off simply by flipping the visor down. And with the stock covering, no one will be the wiser that there's a radar detector inside.

The opening for the sensors is pretty big in the front, but its not visible at all from the front of the car because of the stock tint strip on the windshield.

The pictures don't do it justice, it looks completely stock in person.

Default Great concept. Looks a little ghetto.

Using the visor hinge and clip for the power is pretty slick.

Default This one doesn't come with a remote display.... that would obviously be the best way...

If I ever get the V1 I've been wanting forever I'll do a remote display. For now the mute button is located on the front of the unit. You only have to tap the vinyl that covers the Mute button and it mutes.

But the V1 is too thick to fit in the visor.
