Default Your opinions on A4 reliability........pretty long

Just some random thoughts...I'm interested in your opinions....I've been reading this forum for about 5 months now and I have formed an opinion about the reliability of the A4..... It seems to me that if you have a car that has no problems in the first 15k or so(or very minor problems),you are likely to have a car with only minor problems for the long haul. Conversely, if you start out with problems or have frequent problems in the first 15k or so,your A4 most probably will continue to have things go wrong with it.... In other words if you don't have problems early in the vehicle's life, you probably will have a reliable car, as long as you maintain it with care. Sudden major problems don't seem to occur to a car that has not had a problematic history. And vice versa, a car that has had early problems will probably continue to have problems....Do you guys agree?

Default I think it has a lot to do with the driver... i've seen how late some people brake, and their

constant acceleration.. its all about moderation, you gotta run is hard sometimes, but not all the time.. and esp, not when its cold

Default Yes, but I've seen some posts on here where the car has some pretty serious problems within.......

the first 5000 miles or so. Surely driving hard for that short a time would not cause major problems, would it?

that's where driving characteristics are really important; proper break-in is necessary.

Default well, I am pretty hard on the gas and brakes all the time and no mechanical failures other than:

when I hit something (brick/block of wood) which jarred the tranny. And a light switch died (possibly due to 130W bulbs). Nothing related to the car itself despite me driving the crap out of it. Hell, I even yank the handbrake and spin the car whenever I get a chance at a 50-60mph U-turn.
and the car just keeps on humming.

I do have some serious windnoise from the passenger door at above 90mph (I can see a gap in the door seal, light comes through) but I can't see a bend or anything when the door's open. Probably from previous owner.

I tend to agree with your statement (for any type of car)
