$12.5K Trade-In value??
I took my 2001 A4 into a dealer a couple days ago looking to trade it in on a new car. I was totally shocked when I was only offered $12,500. for it. I can't seem to fathom that a car that sold for a little under $30K in 2001 is only worth $12.5K today. Granted car dealers are only looking-out for themselves when they do trade-ins, but I figured I would be offered at least $15K.
I'm hoping I can get some suggestions on what my car is really worth. What SHOULD I be able to get in trade? And what should I be able to get if I sell it outright?
Here's the specs on my car -
2001 A4 1.8T
Black with Black Leather
Tiptronic
Quattro Celebration package (wheels are in great shape - since snow tires are used half the year only 20K on original Michelin Pilots)
Bose audio system
37K miles
Hood has a couple of chips and there are some scratches on the right front bumper - otherwise entire body is in great shape!
New rear pads and rotors - last week
MobilOne used religiously
Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

yeah so you lost 17.5k on your b5... lets see i was offerred...
so far the best ive seen is 18k on what was a 38 and change car in 2002 ...
so somehow i lost 20k and you only lost 17.5k...
not to mention your car has now been replaced by 2 body styles... id say you got an amazing price... my car should be worth more

Its supply and demand, they can't lose money on reselling it for you. If you want a higher price...
sell it yourself.
If you do a price comparison, a similar car sells for about $15-16k which looks like a $3k dealership return.
