Default 1.8T or 3.0?

Noob question here... After a few stellar years at work, I think I'm ready to dump my '00 Jetta GLS for an A4. I'm looking at a Quattro, and I've tried both engine flavors. Is it really worth it to spend the extra money on the 3.0? Or should I just put the extra money into tuning a 1.8 later on?

Oh... now the dealer's also pointing at a '01 4.x A6...

Hints? Suggestions? Thanks.

Default Value is relative...

The real important question is which do you prefer?

Default Re: Value is relative... color & price?

Thanks Rival... I gotta admit, I like the 3.0. I've pretty much convinced myself into a corner on this one. Plus, i'm not really into performance modding much.

Been scouring the forums tonight, and I think I want to go with the black color. Dolphin would be nice, but there's plenty of them around. Thing is, back in the day, I often heard that the option of 'paint sealant' or whatever extra treatment to the paint was not worth the money and that it was just a bogus treatment. Does this still hold true? I know how much trouble black can be, and if paint treatments really work, all the better.

I'm getting a quote that's around $1800CDN (3.5%) below MSRP. Is this reasonable in your experience?

Thanks for all your input! I hope to have it by the New Year!

If you can swing it, get the 3.0.

Default I have a black '01 A4......

...and I'll never buy another black car. Yes, it's beautiful when it's clean, however I've given up on washing it myself. The paint swirls very easily, and it shows ANY scratches and dings. My last car was silver, and I swore I'd never own a black car, but this was one of the last '01s on the lot when I got it at the end of that year, so..... I really love the dolphin gray color, however it is pretty popular.

Good luck! BTW, I agree on the 3.0.

aren't 3.0's gas guzzlers compared to the 1.8Ts?

And I don't drive slow.
