1.8T vs 3.0- thoughts?
Am getting a new A4 quattro for my business car- primarily highway miles. Can't decide between 1.8t or 3.0, both manuals of course. Drive a '01 1.8T now but had a '98 2.8 avant. Like the idea of lighter 1.8t and interior seems sportier without the wood accents, but also like the idea of the 6 speed with the 3.0. Ideas?

I tend to hall more junk around (still in school) than people so I just think getting books, bags,
ski boots, etc., are easier to move in/out of an avant. The trunk is large but stuff seems to move toward the back of it. Just MHO, though.

Go for a test drive to decide, but there have been a few posts....
that the 6 speed makes you feel like you're shifting all the time. On the flip side, 5 spd has high revs at "mach 1" speeds on the highway. ;-)

Re: if you're gonna chip and want better MPG, get the 1.8, but get the avant...
Get the Avant! It looks really good. I could not shift the 3.0 very smoothly (this might be me, but I can shift the 1.8t perfectly). Also, the 1.8t in the '02 seems to be smoother than the 1.8t in my '01. I just got an '02 avant and I love it.
