3.0 mileage

3.0 mileage
I'm confused, I see alot of people here posting about gas mileage in the 20's. I've had my car a month and it has about 800 miles on it. The first 3 weeks I horsed it around ( it's hard not to) and the average gas mileage was about 14.3 mpg. Last week I reset the average mileage counter and babied it, just to see what kind of mileage I could get. So far it's about 15.5 mpg and I can't take driving like this anymore ;-). It doesn't seem to matter that much, and it's too much fun to drive the car hard.
By the way all my driving is in the city with some hills.
Is this what I should expect?

It will gradually improve over time.
I do a lot more highway driving than city driving. At first I was getting the same mileage you were. It then slowly improved to where I am now around 24mpg. You're still in the initial break-in period, so give it some more time. For the longest time, I was hovering around 19mpg, but after taking 2 long road trips, it's definately improved. I've had mine for over 7 months and have driven it over 15,000 miles.

Re: i have 900 miles on my car. EXACTLY SAME milage as u
Mine is around 18-19 mpg. I have about 3000 miles on my 3.0. I am usually on normal driving. Sport mode on the weekend. The first 2 weeks were bad. Just give it time.

3.0 QMS - 5400mi - computer avg mpg since new 22.9 - hit 23 once briefly.
Seems to be stabilizing at this point.
mpg seems sensitive to:
tire pressure - keep 'em pumped - I run at 36-37psi - reasonable compromise with 45 profile tires.
sunroof open - costly at highway speed
longer than expected warm-up period - during 1st 10 min of a trip mileage sucks bad - usually try to keep the revs down during warm-up.
After warm-up, get 26.5 mpg at steady 70mph on level highway in 6th gear.
I'm looking forward to first oil change and switching to Mobil 1 0W30 - hope to gain a tenth or two.
Another small trick of mine - perhaps good for a tenth or two - is to lose the spare wheel and toolkits and spare well cover - just carry tire inflation canister for all around town driving - saves 65 lbs of of weight.
