Default 3.0 TIP owners.....

I'd like to hear from any ex 2.8 TIP owners about their new cars. Are you satisfied with performance compared to your old car? I'm thinking about replacing my 98.5 2.8 but I'm not convinced 220HP is sufficient to pull a car approaching minivan weight. I'm not sure the new A4 is way superior in its class in other areas. Performance is high on my list. I might wait for Infinity G35 or look at Acura now.

Default Very noticeable extra grunt. Particularly low-rev torque which is much much better.

We had a 2.8 Avant Quattro Tip for 3 years, and just got the 3.0 Avant Quattro Tip. The engine feels like double the power. We're still running in (200 miles on it) but the difference is remarkable. As my wife says, "This car has great get-up-and-go."

IMHO you'd be happy with the 3.0, particularly coupled with the sport package.

Default I have a 98 2.8tip and an '02 3.0tip and (more)

The 3.0 engine is vastly different in the amount of giddup. The tip (in plain 'ol Drive mode) shifts a bit differently, and IMO, less dynamically than the 2.8 (i.e. I frequently feel that the car sulks back into a higher gear) whereas my 2.8 seems to more agressively upshift/downshift. However, a few caveats: The 3.0 flat out has more ***** and growl and when you step on it, there is a huge difference from the 190hp in the 2.8. Also, the "sport" mode on the 3.0 allows for more aggressive upshift/downshifting but IMO is not suitable for daily driving or good gas mileage.

All things considered, if you want performance, get the manual and chip it or look for other alternatives because the Qtip isnt typically the choice for high performance.

It suits my needs, and has plenty of torque for its weight.
