ABS EPS lites on Speedo doesn't work

ABS EPS lites on Speedo doesn't work
Started intermittently now solid. VAG code is P0501 also DTC00283 FL G47. R/R left front ABS sensor. No fix.
Mechanic has no clue.
Questions...What would cause the speedo to stop working? What, beside the ABS sensor would cause P0501?
