Default Any 3.0 6-speed people have trouble sometimes engaging 1st gear?

Sometimes (I haven't been able to find a common denominator in terms of weather, engine conditions, etc) when I'm starting out from a stop first gear can be difficult to engage. It's a lot easier if I slip it into second and then first (a trick I learned from my brother's Alfa). I just wanted to see if any others were having similar problems. TIA

By the way, I tried a search but came up empty.

Default Mine's like that, especially when cold...

I don't know whether it's a problem or not. I'm so used to it, I just do like you do and go from second to first and it slides right in. Also, giving it a little gas will help sometimes. Unfortunately, I think it's considered "normal" for our cars.

Default Mine will sometimes do the same thing....

in a few of the reviews I have read they generaly comment about the sloppy actuation of the transmission. Did I just read somewhere that there has been some changes for 2003 in the transmission?

Default Mine too, but better w/ SS. I was able to tweek it alittle to have it a little...

more "slickery" into first.

First now slips in better, but still sticks alittle, especially when cold. I believe, it's inherent w/ the design of the linkage.

Default Happens w/ cold weather before the fluids warm up.

If it happens more often and under various conditions, and it's fairly prominent, you may want to let the dealer know, but it's prob. nothing

Default i'm not sure if there have been any changes or not

My car is a 2003 model, although it was built in July or August of 2002. I'm also not sure if it's the same transmission that's an option in the '04 1.8t's. I've read really good things about the 6-speed's smoothness in the B6S4's, but I'm not sure if that transmission has anything in common with ours.

In any case, thanks to all for the input!.

Default The B6 S4 and 1.8T 6 speeds are completely new and different than ours...

Although I'm not sure if the 3.0 6 speed was changed for 2004 as well. Anybody with a 2004 3.0 6spd care to comment?
