I didn't get Quattro because I just don't need it...
I drive in the city and on the highway. No hills, no snow, no mud. No trailer to pull. I just don't need it.
Quattro is a fraction slower, the car is heavier, fuel consumption is higher.
It didn't make sense to get 4WD, so I saved the money. I'm sure it feels great in corners, and traction from standstill must be superb. But that wasn't worth it for me. I invested the money in other stuff like 18" RS4 wheels and the Audi chiptuning program.

Re: anybody has 1.8t frontwheel drive?...what...?
I live in Dallas, TX, so quattro really wasn't a necessity for me. I drove both and actually liked the lighter, less expensive front-trak better. I paid $26,500 for mine - Amulet 1.8T, Manual, Sport Package, Sunroof, Xenons. Either way you're making a good choice.

I was in the same dilemma except fiances wasnt an issue with me. In Miami, Quattro is very negligible b/c of our climate. We havent seen snow in years and yes fuel and acceleration are hurt. I ended up with a Dolphin 1.8t with all options except Quattro b/c it offered the best performance and with APR chip should be quick. I dont doubt Quattro is awesome but if climate is warm then I dont see a need for it.

I'm in Europe so I guess that doesn't count :)
But basically: (some options are not available in NA, go thank AoA for that)
-Ebony/Ebony/cloth
-5 speed manual (of course, I'm European! )
-Aluminium dash finish
-Alu/Chrome outer finish
-Sport Seats/w lumbar/electric
-Sport Steering Wheel/shifter
-Sport Chassis
-Sport Exhaust
-"Light package"
-Xenons
-No decals (factory 'debadged')
-18" Quattro GmbH RS4 wheels with 235/40/R18
-Factory ECU upgrade (150 to 200hp)
-35% tinted windows
-Blaupunkt aftermarket radio, but designed for Audi (dealer option)
Hmmm, think thats about it...

The FWD has pretty good traction, dont let all the quattro owners tell you differently.
Also you can only get CVT in the fwd. CVT is very sweet. No shift points makes for a very smooth and quick ride.
Another thing to remember that if it snows you probally will not be on the road.
Another thing to remember that when it comes to safety it is the braking which really matters.

Ask urself this: is $350 a year on a 5yr loan worth it for quattro? . . . no doubt, plus resale!
thats less than 30 dollars a month while you pay off your car.
you may not "need" it, but i would consider it for the safety, traction, and all the other stuff, plus the fact that when people buy (or you trade in), a quattro has much more value, its the main reason people buy audis.
its like getting an new SUV with 2wd not 4wd, thats not gonna sell easy.
but a sweet A4 quattro, theyll be lining up for a test drive
just give it some thought, and good luck either way

i think that really just depends on each person's preference. quattro is nice, i got it cos i like the traction but it definitely slow down the acceleration comparing to CVT.
