Default audi a4 1.8t 2004 misfire?

i was driving on the freeway and my car started sputtering and engine light came on.
when to the shop and the mechanic said oil was leaking onto the spark plug and said it shorted out so cylinder 2 was misfiring.

he is charging me $530 to fix the leak and the plug am i getting ripped off?

Default It could be a coilpack going bad; common problem. Check them first (edited)

and possibly save yourself $500. Also, check with your own eyes to see if there really is oil on your spark plugs.

Default Oil on spark plugs usually means leaky valve cover gasket...

Cost of the gasket is $15 I belive. Labour to replace about 1 hour.

New coil pack $30. 2 minutes to replace.

Default Check the coilpack first

Even if oil is leaking, you can DIY (if you DIY) the VC gasket and change the spark plugs for a lot less.

4 coilpacks: $90
4 NGK sparkplugs: ~$20
VC gasket: ~$15

Total: $125
