Bad news...I think my clutch is starting to go :( Can anyone confirm?
Driving to NYC from Boston this evening, I noticed at one point when in 5th gear, I punched it to pass someone around 3k rpms and it was fine, climbing to 3500rpms then it just shot up to about 4000rpms and went back down. I think my clutch is starting to slip in higher gears when punching it. Tried it again same gear, same happens. But its fine in 4th gear if I punch it same RPM range...
Also, when starting off in 1st gear, just as its grabs, I feel a slight shudder...
does this mean my clutch is starting to wear out? how much longer do I have if I take it easy? I have been pretty easy on the clutch, chipped since 14,500 miles. NO hard launches, just passing on the highway really and no lugging the clutch.
What a bummer and start to the weekend evening
On a good note, going to Roy's in New York for restaurant week.

The symptoms you describe can also result from oil contamination of the clutch disk ...
Check for rear main seal and trans input shaft seal leaks. Depending on mileage, it is most likely wear, but engagement shudder suggests oil contamination may be involved.

Do you think a tranny fluid flush may help? Its quite notchy in the mornings
more so than last winter, as well. So I'm not sure if that has to do with anything.
Maybe the small price for the tranny flush is worth it for now than replacing the clutch now...I've got 56k now on the original tranny fluid.

Tranny fluid may help nothiness a bit but won't save the clutch...
the clutch does not use the tranny fluid. It is outside that sealed case. The clutch hydraulics share the same resovoir with the brakes.

Re: Are you still under warranty?
Does the notchiness go away after it has warmed up? I may have a new OEM clutch available soon. I'll find out Monday. If your interested shoot me an email. lpsantos74@yahoo.com

Thanks, so update...just got back from NYC to Boston and I could NOT reproduce the problem!
The only difference today is that I had a car full, 5 people and luggage going down, return today only my girlfriend and myself, light luggage. I floored it at 3500 rpms in 5th, nothing. Normal. No shudder when the clutch engages when starting off. Normal.
Do you think it could have been the weight putting extra stress on the tranny? Maybe accelerating in 5th at that RPM band wasn't strong enough so it slipped a little? But it would be fine in 4th gear.
But since the clutch did slip with a full car in 5th, could be in the near future the clutch may slip more? Or could it just be a one time thing because of all the weight?
