Default Which brake fluid with stock lines?

Almost rear-ended someone today. I ordered Hawk HPS for all four wheels and I'm gonna flush the brake fluid. Should I get Motul 5.1 or 600? I'm skipping the stainless lines unless someone can convince me otherwise. Also, which tools should I buy? Do I need anything special to bleed the system? I assume I can rent the caliper retraction tool. Thanks.

Default don't waste your money on 5.1 or RBF600, stick with OEM fluid

No need for stainless lines either. You'll be happy with the Hawk HPS pads. Fresh fluid is good for maintenance and if your car never sees a racetrack, any other fluid will be a waste of money.

You can rent the rear caliper tool, yes.

$15 for the fluid is a waste?

Default You're going to really enjoy the HPS pads. I run 5.1 in my car. SS lines are nice to have but the...

difference is negligible imo.

Probably a stupid question, but you can run 5.1 with stock lines right?

Default yes. For what the fluid was designed to do, you won't be utilising it completely

Those fluids are good because they have higher boiling points for repeated heavy usage, namely on a race track.

OEM fluid is absolutely fine for all road applications, unless you intend on making repeated and successive hard stops from high speed. You absolutely will not feel any more bite to your brakes because you're using Motul fluid.

FYI, unless your brake pedal goes all the way to the floor, you haven't boiled your fluid. If you have good, constant pressure, then your master cylinder/lines/fluid are fine. If you have constant pressure and not enough bite and too much fade, that's a pad issue. In this case, the Hawk HPS pads will rectify that for you.

If your pedal goes to the floor and you're losing brake bite, then you've boiled your fluid, in which case, you'd need to upgrade your fluid. But again, it takes a lot to boil the fluid. You don't demand that much of the brakes on the road. Even if you brake from 100MPH to 0, you'll overheat the pads before you overheat the fluid.

Default Also most importantly...

if you choose to use Motul fluid, it can be considered a "mod" as it's not OEM. Mods can be listed in your sig, while most OEM stuff can't. The more mods you have, the larger the sig, the bigger your interweb pens.

So there.

Default Lol.

Motul 5.1 is actually "cheaper" than OEM.

I mainly use it because it comes in .5L bottles so there's less wasted fluid. The 20 degree higher bp isn't significant enough to really warrant using one over the other.

Default don't waste your money refilling the stock brake lines...

Cross-drilled brake lines FTW. Never have a problem again...
