Default Breaking in is hard to do.....

First week with my new A4 3.0 CVT. I can't tell you how glad I am that I didn't go with the IS300. And this car is the fountain of youth. I was previously driving an Acura 3.5RL, which is a great car....if you are in its demographic which is something like 50 year old men, no offense to the 50 year old men here. The A4 plain rocks and I love the CVT tranny. I know you manny's won't agree but it is the best of both worlds for me, don't want a manual and the tip is amazingly quick on this car compared to the Q/auto. Now I just need to get thru the break-in. This car wants to drive!

Anyone recommend a good body shop in South Orange County for painting lowers?

Moro Blue/Platinum, Sport, Premium, Bose, 30% Ceramic tint, getting 18's tonite!

Default Breaking it in while driving it hard is the way to do it!

I am a believer of the new school break-in where you drive it hard during break in. Mine is at 5600 miles and have yet to have the need to add oil to the engine. Sounds like it's pretty tightly sealed.

But again, I'm leasing so what do I care? :-D

Default I hear driving it is key. the only thing I was instructed..

not to do is use cruise or let the rpm sit at one point for an extended period. You do not have to wait 100omiles to drive over 4k rpm or any such nonsense. In fact it is supposed to be better to run it when new I have heard. Someone chime in with the piston ring thing...

Default Piston ring thing....

The piston rings are not perfectly aligned with the cylinder as both the cylinder wall and the piston rings have imperfections. To seat them right you have to press them hard against one another so they can use their own imperfections as "sandpaper" to mate one to the other for a super tight fit.

The way to force them to rub against one another is done by increasing the pressure in the engine compartment the best way to do it is to ride the car hard where the engine generates a lot of force on the rings. Cruising while doing 40 is not going to cut it, the engine is just basically coasting along, no high compression.

Since these imperfections wear out failry quick and lose their ability to mate the ring to the cylinder, your best bet is to drive it hard from day one.

Like I said, I've driven my car hard from day one and I have yet to add oil to the engine after 5600 miles. I've heard others have added several quarts by now.... (another reason why first oil change is at 5k on 2004 Audis, people never checked their oil level)

There you have it.

Default Wrong link, you didn't link the frame, you linked the home page.

But here is the URL of the page I got my education from :-) :http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm
