Default can you tell me what's wrong with my A4 1.8t

My 2000 A4 seems to have a suspension problem with the drivers side front wheel. The best way I can describe it, is that when I go over a bump or pothole at low speed I hear a clunking noise like the wheel is dropping an inch with no cushioning? When I make wide left turns I can feel a wobbling. I feel like this is pretty serious but want to know what it is before I spend a fortune on something I could fix myself. (like tightening a bolt)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Default I'll bet you have bad control arm(s), but am unsure about the wobbling...

Apparently, many control arms on the B5 crack. My '97 had control arms replaced twice in 90,000 miles, and I never abused the car or drove on rotten roads
