Checking Codes
I'm just an occasional visitor here, basically when my girlfriend has trouble with her 2002 A4 or my buddy's wife has trouble with her 2004 A6. Recently my girlfirend's check engine light came on. Is there any easy way to check the codes without a scanner? I know places like autozone will do it but I'd prefer to avoid that. A friend has a scanner for his M3. Any chance that'd work for an Audi? On my Jeep I can just turn the key on 3x and the check engine light will flash the sequence of codes to go look up. I'm doubtful but hoping that it will be as easy here. If so, if some one could tell me where to find the code list too I'd really appreciate it. I tried a search but couldn't come up with anything.

need a vag tool...
ask around your regional forum..it is likely there is someone there who can help you for a beer or two. if not..your autozone solution is the answer, but just because you have the code doesnt mean the answer is blasting you in the face. symptoms of the problem, or just a light?

yesterday all I knew about was the light today, I'm told the fans coming on more than it used, or something that sounds like it. I'll do a little more research and let you know what I find.
