Default Coolant bottle is dark gray almost black, any ideas why????

Not my car, but a guy I know at work bought it a few mos ago. 1.8t A4 from 2003. The bottle on my s4 is clear other then the pink fluid. He also has some sort of coolant leak as well. I have just never seen a dark gray almost black coolant bottle before.

I am more concerned some idiot put oil in there or washerfluid. Any ideas?

Default My '03 reservoir was dark grey when new also. My first impression was that ...

the coolant was mixed with incompatible antifreeze. I ordered and installed a replacement reservoir and had the dealer flush the system.
Now, my tank is white and the pink coolant can be seen easily.
I believe the plastic used on a batch of tanks in late '02, was contaminated with some black recycled feed stock, and that is why some of the tanks are grey.

Default Yup. Weight savings.

Actually just so it's easier to replace the coilpacks on the side of a road. Been running like this for the last 8 months or so, no problems.
