Creeking Noise: Solution!!!! (follow up to old post)
I posted a thread a while back on a noise coming from the rear of the car on slants and when I hit bumps. The noise was a creek going up and down on slants. The chirping noise came over bumps.
Here is how after two trips to two different dealers solved the problem:
dec 20, 2001: 1st trip to Circle Audi in Long Beach CA
* Cause - rear seat latch. They unistalled it and reinstalled it and the chirp went away.
Dec 26, 2001 : Took back the car to Rusnak (where I bought it ) in pasadena. They had a "noise" specialist drive the car. On the paperwork it stated that he looked over the whole rear suspension, lubed all the doors and seals (trunk, hood, roof lining), lubed the suspension and the noise was still there. Finally he removed and the B-Pillar and used felt pads to cushion the roof lining. "NOISE-GONE"!!
FINALLY! I have a quiet car. No creeks and no chirps!
Just thought I would share!
Happy Holidays.

Vega, was it the B-pillar or the C-pillar?
The B-pillar is in the middle of the car where the seatbelt is for the front driver/passenger, the C-pillar is in the back. Interesting, did they stuff the felt behind the pillar or up by the roof? It seems like my creak came from each side of the rear deck, somewhere where the rear seatbelt mechanism is.

On the paper work it stated b-pillar.
I tried to post the word for word on both dealers findings last night but I guess it did not go through. I was so excited on the drive back from the dealer last night I could not wait.
I only noticed the missing post this morning at work. I will edit my post tonight with the exact dealer words on the problem.
I drove all the way to work (street + freeway + more street ) with the radio turned off, windows rolled up.... NOT A SOUND! I AM REALLY HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope it stays that way

Similiar sound in mine, thanks, but...
Thanks for locating the problem. I have had similiar creaks in mine. However, I have also pinpointed some creaks coming from my sunroof. It seems to crack, creak, sqeak, whatever, when I also hit bumps or the car undergoes body lean. I tried pushing a little from the inside of the car on the glass of the sunroof, and it replicates the sound. Could it be loose or improper seals? Anyone else experience this?

Re: Creeking Noise: I'm a victim as well
As much as I love this car I am so disappointed by the squeaks I've had to endure in just 3 weeks of ownership. I thought I bought an Audi not a frickin Ford! I was in for sunroof rattles (something tells me this won't be the last for roof rattles) and for the last week I've had the same bloody chirping coming from the rear left side of my car. I checked everything I could get at to see what it might be with no luck. Mine tends to kick in after driving the car for about 10 minutes then every bump I hit I hear the damn thing. It drives me insane. When I drive without the stereo on I'm pre-occupied with listening for more squeaks!! I'm going in Jan 02 for another time and it better be the last!

I don't want to jinx myself...........
....but the quiet is blissful.
I would recommend having the technician install felt lining in the roof. I think the main problem is that the roof is not tight.
When I tried to replicate the noise, I noticed that the roof lining would give in certain places.
The slight flexing of the car would make this produce noise.
The CHIRP!: I definitely think its the rear seat latch. Have them oil it and remount it.
Audi should definitely do something to fix this.
On stiffer cars, flexing should not be a creek cause. After all, the car is stiffer, flexes less and therefore the material inside produces less stress.

The technician, I believe, also added felt to that area (Sun Roof). When I took it for a drive with the technician, that was the first thing he noticed.
I had also noticed it before but since I get the same thing from my Gf's beemer and my old nissan, I did not think much of it. The rear creeking got me the most.
Good Luck, and don't buy into the "it always makes noise crap". I am using my warranty till the last drop.
If one dealer doesn't fix it...then go to another.
I will post the full paper work statements tonight so you can print them out and take them to the dealer yourself.

Re: Creeking Noise: Solution!!!! (follow up to old post)
I've got some serious creeking noise going on with the trim on all four doors. Push the trim or covering on the doors and you will hear a lot of creeking and cracking. After a while I thought it may be "normal" for the VW/Audi kind; however, I've just driven a rental Passat here in Europe and it's as tight as a vault. Does anyone have the same kind of problem?
