Ed P - what's Audi's official take on the 10k service intervals?

My Aug 01 built 02 A4 came with a 5K / or 6 months service coupon
AoA said it was sorry that I got a misprinted manual and that the first service point they will pay for is 10K or 12 months which ever comes first. Sounds like an offical position to me.
PS. I told them I was sorry but I considered the service manual with the 5K/ or 6 months service a contract with Audi when I bought the car. The agreed to cover it due to their mistake in the service manual.
As I put low miles on my car, I will probably be doing one oil change myself in June and have Audi do the one in December. I am providing my own oil..
