I have not said much about my broken down car in a while. I thought that I would share!

The car has been in the shop since the 11th of last month. 2 weeks ago I got it away from the one dumb *** dealer who changed my computer out and said it was fixed but had bad gas. Car had the same symptom as when I took it in originally. That next day I took it to a much larger and better dealer. He laughed at the other dealers feable attempts to repair and his dismissive "it's bad gas..." statement.

So after 2 weeks of daily troubleshotting, riding with the vag, talking with the factory daily and testing everything he has determined that cylinder 2 has a mechanical problem. When he accomplished a compression check he found cylinders 1,3 & 4 lost appx. 3% on the check ,acceptable; cylinder 2 lost over 16%. He now has the head removed and is checking the valves, piston and rings. Fun stuff, let me tell you.

Has ANYONE every had a problem like this? Know anyone who has!? I have a feeling that the engine might have had a manufacturing defect that took a while to show it's face...?????

Don't quote me on the percents on the compression check. He was trying to translate all the technical stuff to English for me becasue I don't speak technical German. At least I have a competent dealer working on it now.

Maybe the car will be fun and happy when it comes home from the garage! I miss it! (

 

Did they say anything about you being chipped?

 

The first dealer swapped the computer.

 

It sucks that you paid all that money for the ECU upgrade. APR should have some kind of a guarantee that if ever the dealer changes the ECU to stock, APR will do the re-upgrade for free as long as they have the necessary proof that the ECU serial number matches what's in their records.

The chip had nothing to do with the problem. The symptom didn't change at all when the computer was changed.

I have been in contact with APR several times and they have been really helpful and are going to work with me should I choose to get another chip. I am kind of afraid though...

 

No, they didn't even know. I had EMCS and I had the chip off.

he was set on blaming the chip when in fact it wasnt the problem. i did get a nice letter apologizing his behavior.
